A tempo giusto education.
“To the right speed” in English. I discovered this concept of Slow Education in the Carl HONORE’s book.
On the subject of parents or school, the goal is to personalize the approach according to each child’s aptitude and rhythm. Slow Education advocates an alternation of rhythms among full-time, educative, dead-time, time out, rest, and contemplative… Students must learn to re-control their acquisition process.
Slow Education’s goals.
Adopt Slow Education, it’s doing more in the less. Do not understand “doing more things in less time”, but taking advantage of time-outs to reorganize our mind. You have to take time to learn and not to stuffing yourself with information to memorize no matter the cost.
Among these goals, we can notice those:
- Do not leave a child in difficulty,
- Promote blossoming of everybody,
- Be careful about emotional dimension,
- Privilege the quality instead of quantity,
- Implement a personalized approach,
- Develop human values,
- Purpose more time-outs.
15 Slow Education’s principles.
In his book “Praise of Slow Education”, Joan Domènech FRANCESCH poses the 15 principles of Slow Education with trust as a basis. Some of them are:
- Education is slow
- Educative activities define themselves their necessary time
- With education, less it’s more
- School must teach time to children
- Each child needs a personalized time to learn
- Education is a qualitative process
- Slow Education be part to a pedagogic renovation
These principles allow teaching customization in order to adapt you to each temperament.
Personal thought about Slow Education.
To my mind, Slow Education is the beginning of Slow Management. One of success levers is going through emotional plan. We must recreate links with each person, personalize our method and promote human values.
No way to turn school into a big “care-bears land”, but to limit pressure and the highlighting of mistakes.
Also, our current society wants to make these children be consumers as soon as possible by growing them the faster possible. I think Slow Education may preserve and synchronize them with their natural rhythm. By this way, students will develop at their “tempo giusto”.
